ERC-20 will help you create your cryptocurrency on the Ethereum Blockchain. ERC-20 stands for Ethereum Request for Comment 20, and it is a set of rules and standards that a token on the Ethereum blockchain must follow to be considered an ERC-20 token. ERC-20 defines a set of functions that must be implemented in a smart contract for a token to be considered ERC-20 compliant. These functions include methods for transferring tokens, checking balances, and other standard functionalities.

What are the steps I should follow?

Write a smart contract

You can build on top of OpenZeppelin's ERC20.sol which eliminates a lot of boilerplate code that you have to write

Deploy your smart contract

What is a smart contract?

Smart contracts are digital agreements represented by code. They encode the rules and conditions of a contract, and when predefined conditions are met, the contract automatically executes the agreed-upon actions. This eliminates the need for a traditional intermediary or third party to enforce the contract.

Smart contracts find applications in various fields, including finance (automated payments, lending protocols), supply chain (tracking and verifying the authenticity of products), and decentralized applications (DApps) where they define the rules of interaction between users

How do I deploy my smart contract?

You can use Remix's Web IDE to deploy your smart contract onto the Ethereum Blockchain.

How much does it cost to create your cryptocurrency on Ethereum?

Beware!! Deploying your token on the Ethereum Blockchain is not free and costs real money in the form of gas fees, and it's important to understand the associated costs and security considerations.

Who created ERC-20?

ERC-20 was proposed by Fabian Vogelsteller, a blockchain developer and one of the contributors to the Ethereum project. His proposal outlined the standard for fungible tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, and since its introduction, ERC-20 has become the de facto standard for creating tokens on Ethereum.

Isn't it hard to find repositories that you want to contribute to, even with github's explore feature?

Well, this is exactly the issue that we faced when we were starting out with open source.

In fact, we came to know about appwrite because of an open-source influencer on YouTube. So to solve this problem of "Open Source Scavenging", we thought, why not build a social networking platform for open-source developers, kinda like Instagram but for open-source?

Just like you follow your favourite influencers and your friends on Instagram, with Git Safari, your feed will be filled with open source recommendations from people that you follow that will give you a better insight into what they are contributing to and what they are recommending to others.
